An incredible £9,083 was raised for Mentally Fit York by Great York Walkers, who took on the challenge of walking up to 25 miles for mental health.

The walk took place on Saturday 17 May, where walkers took on the challenge of walking up to 25 miles around the city. Members across the University community took part, bringing together alumni, staff, students and members of the public.

The journey began at Greg's Place on Campus West and weaving through iconic landmarks such as the Millennium Bridge and York Minster, ending back on campus at Heslington Hall.

The money raised will go towards grassroots initiatives, research and scholarships at York to improve mental health in York and beyond - as part of the 'Mentally Fit York' fund.

One project recently supported by Mentally Fit York is a therapeutic expressive writing group which helps vulnerable women enhance their resilience and emotional health. This is a free, community-based intervention offered to local women that fills a crucial area of need.

A member of the therapeutic writing group said: “Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity, I feel so lucky to have taken part in such an empowering group.”

Thanks to the dedication of our walkers and the generosity of supporters, The Great York Walk will enable Mentally Fit York to continue supporting life-changing projects improving mental health in York and beyond.
